Well where to start, first night here he has a fall did he have his life line buzzer ?my relative passed away here after 4 weeks he had a stroke 10 weeks previous and was in hospital then moved here, was there to get physio & care, well in the 4 weeks whilst I was visiting never saw any staff apart from physio twice who stood chatting said he was tired, when I ask him he wasn't tired to do some physio.they said they would walk him the day after which the did,the day before he passed he was happy he was going home the next week or so and sat watching TV. I notice his life line buzzer under bed,I got a cleaner to pass it to him has to what use was it to him there when he was sat in chair. The day after I received the devastating news I didn't want to hear they stated he was watching TV within half hour he was found slump on bed was he trying to reach for buzzer which possibly wasn't given to him in his chair that morning again.this must be a wake up call to all staff in there, they should make sure they have life line on them or near them at all times.also the food is kosher they should cater for all religions.Looks a great place don't be fooled.

Words can not truly express what a wonderful, caring place Heathlands is. My father was in the nursing unit for 5 months and the love care respect and dignity he received form all the staff but especially the nurses and carers was unbelievable. It is very difficult to single anybody out as they are all exceptional, however nurses Sarah, Diane and Sonia as well as carers Fanny, Daniel, Nadine and Brad really went above and beyond what we expected. For the last 18 months I have done voluntary work at a local hospice and have seen first hand truly amazing carers and nurses in action, however what we experienced at Heathlands surpassed everything. I feel that the activities team as well as the dining room staff also deserve a mention as they also all showed the same care, respect dignity and love towards my father.

Specifically an old age home with hospital pier gardens car parks green spaces and many other amenities for old folks and the not so old with problems of various kinds. Away from main road served by a feeder road. Possesses own transportation in form of large minibuses.

The home itself looks fantastic but be careful not to be taken in by the facade as our experience was anything but fantastic. My father went for a week’s respite and, during that short time there were two serious breaches of safeguarding (one of which had huge potential for my father being seriously hurt), the wrong medication administered several times - mostly not enough given but, on one occasion, too much (a huge concern) and an injury to his leg (not serious) but no one could account for it or even had it recorded. Had the carers taken any notice of him when dressing/undressing him?
The home tried to hide (some might say cover up) their mistakes by saying there was nothing in their records or the records were a totally different version of what was verbally reported to us which, in itself, is a worry.
Obviously our very poor and anxious experience will not be the same for everyone but I can’t help but feel we can’t be the only ones to suffer such an inadequate level of care. Were we just unlucky? I don’t believe so as there were too many incidents where an inadequate level of care was administered. Anyone thinking of putting their loved ones in this environment need to look carefully under the glossy veneer - you might see a very different picture (as sadly we did).
