John Leggott College - Scunthorpe

Year 1 of college was not a good experience for me. My teacher taught us the wrong subjects for quite a bit of the year and now in year 2 i have to re-do all of my work which was due in last year! Alex Gough is a criminology teacher and deserves a very large pay rise! If your child wants to take criminology, take them to JLC. the well being team say that they are there whenever you need them, but when i asked for help i got told they were busy and i was put on a 1 month waiting list! as a student who works, the food at lunch is massively overpriced, £3.95 for a sandwich, no sides, just a sandwich. If i was to have JUST a sandwich every day (which is way too little for a 9-4 college day) that would come to a total of £19.75 which is absolutely appalling. other than this, the teacher (on a hole does try to get us good grades and i give credit to that as it does work (especially Alex) Leon the Headmaster is funny and nice to chat with. One last thing that i personally think needs to be changed, is in year one TAPP (extra classes) when talking about the future and what we all are wanting to do after college, i would say almost every single teacher ignores any other option other than going to university or having an apprenticeship, but they mainly focus on university. What about Gap Years? Full Time Jobs? University is absolutely not the only option after college and this needs to be made aware of! GIVE ALEXANDRIA GOUGH A PAY RISE!!

this place was alright at the start and just got progressively worse by the minute they served pretty much raw chicken that made me and my friends sicked over not to mention that she ended up having diarrhoea and it was so cold it’s like they have not turned the heating on since the 1980s. overall it was a bad experience lovely teachers they just don’t suit this type of environment

Great college for sports, the enrichments sport have a large variety of sports for you to choose from. All sports teachers and coaches are really good and kind. sport teachers are great at teaching content needed for exams as well as providing extra support when you are challenged with some content

The worst college ever, they are not inclusive at all and will not help you if you are in any way disabled. My child has been bullied by her own teachers for having a medical condition and accused of "over using" and other things after having to be taken in an ambulance multiple times. This is a terrible place and the teachers are the worst of it.

Great college enjoyed it so much wish I could go back and I enjoyed the bond I made with the teachers especially with my basketball coach James brought recommend playing with that team -Mason

Two of my daughters attended this college over the period 2021-2024. It has dropped in quality considerably since I was there myself in the 90s.

The Biology department (both took A-level) has a severe lack of staff which the college seem unable to get on top of. As a result the teaching over this period has been haphazard, and in the case of my eldest it's perfectly fair to say that she had to teach herself.

I can't count the number of times my younger daughter has returned early from college because of staff absence. Rather than cover the lessons with support staff, the lessons are simply cancelled. This seems to be a particular issue with Philosophy.

I can only recommend you try and speak to recent students in your chosen subjects as other courses may vary- other departments such as Psychology and Criminology are of a good quality. But as it currently stands, I would certainly advise you avoid this college for A-level biology- the department has had serious issues for at least the last three years.

EDIT as of April 2024 the philosophy tutor for A level left mid term. There are now no qualified tutors for this subject. Out of three subjects, my daughter who remains at this college now pretty much has to teach herself two of them!

my daughters coming to the end of her two years at John leggott, and I can only say how positive the experience has been. The level of support from her teachers and tutor have been really appreciated! She is now preparing for her final exams and looking forward to studying psychology at university!

JLC is a great college especially the enrichment sports they offer, they bring people together and allow new friendships. Especially Phill he’s a great guy!
