Had (unfairly) low expectations but was pleasently surprised. Excellent example of remains of a Roman Villa preserved and protected. Has very useful guide boards around the entire venue educating about the history. Great for the kids too and kept them occupied for 2 hours.

Good to visit in all weathers as it's all enclosed inside.

Rather impressive and well preserved Roman villa. The English Heritage have done a great job in maintaining and presenting this wonderful bit of history. The villa is housed in a purpose made shelter and is impressively large. Did not know what to expect, once inside and past the souvenir shop, you are greeted with an excavation, detailing out the old villa. The rooms are marked out and information boards explaining what’s on view. Site and burial finds presented in glass displays. A presentation is run every 10mins which uses light and sound to explain what’s on view. It still amazes me how advanced the Romans were. This villa consisted of heated flooring and spa. Above the hill was a mausoleum. One of the lead coffins is on display with the skeleton exposed. If you like history, you will not be disappointed

I great place to visit, especially if a school project deadline is looming ever closer. Good setup and all indoors, so can visit whatever the weather. Be warned is cold inside, probably to do with preservation, so make sure your keep warm. Staff are polite and helpful. And the biggest surprise, the kids enjoyed. It doesn't take long as well to go round which is another plus, but plenty of info to be had.

Tucked away in beautiful countryside this hidden site is well worth a visit. It's a short walk to the ruins from the carpark to the reception and gift shop, where friendly staff are on duty.
The remains are fully labelled and the story of the villa's life is brought to life with display boards around the periferary. The audio video display is a must to understand the villa fully.
Artifacts from the site are displayed on the upper floor where the mosaics can be best viewed too.
Allow about 90 minutes for a leisurely visit.
Be aware the ruins are kept with subdued lighting and at a cool temperature, I wished I'd taken a jumper.

This is a lovely half day visit tucked in beautiful landscape. The villa has been prepared well for the display, and there is plenty to entertain and educate children. All ages will love it.

An extremely well preserved Roman villa, covered by a well-kept building. For once I felt that the price of the entrance ticket was well worth it. There is plenty of information displayed on large boards all along the path that goes around the house, including a very nice video displayed on a larger screen and with exceptional viewing angle.

An amazing day out with the family, the front desk staff were very welcoming and friendly; the young volunteer was also very friendly, especially to our four year old girl. There is so much to see and learn, things to interact with and so many cool gifts to buy at the gift shop.

Also worth a trip into the village for a drink at the Plough afterwards 🙂

Well... it certainly is an impressive sight - walls etc. very well preserved. Shame it’s in a relatively confined space. The exhibits are great - hard to imagine really.

The downside is the C19 protocols - which on paper are fine - masks (no idea why English kids can’t wear a mask when Scottish kids can...) - a one way system in place - that’s good - except just about everybody ignored it and the staff would not enforce it. Finally kids running around while mothers blindly let them - and then get offended when raised with them. I’d avoid until they get their C19 act together...
