Reasonably well-kept modern pale-stone estate built on the site of a former naval college and grounds, surrounded by mature woodlands and pathways. A cyclepath runs from Crownhill ‘village’ through to the Brake Farm estate, footpaths aplenty with a few open-plan road/footway sections. As well as the woods, there’s an open space at Bladder Meadow with kids’ playground and a patch of land near The Quarters (built 2019-21).
The housing ranges from flats (at the north-west end nr Manadon Sports to larger detached properties nearer to the greener eastside. The flats look a bit tired now. The houses away from that end remain well-kept though. Quiet for the most part, living there might be a different story - check with the locals. It’s certainly been a peaceful enough idyll during lockdown walking. Residents of most ages, not so many teenagers, mainly families and retirees who have ‘done alright for themselves’.
Shops:
The nearest grocery shop is either on St Peters Road near the aforementioned sports hub at Ruskin Cres or in Crownhill ‘village’ (small Co-op, post office, chemist). Transit Way offers up a large Tesco, Lidl, Argos, post office, pet shop etc.
Restaurants: none. There’s an Indian restaurant in Crownhill, otherwise it’s takeouts.
Pub: none. The Tamar in Crownhill is a ‘Flaming Grill’ chain pubco sort of place.
Summary: The housing stock is about 15-20 years old, prices aren’t cheap it’s about the nicest district in this end of Plymouth if you’re looking for somewhere to live or walk the dog.
