In 1993, the Cornwall Historic Environment Service published a detailed report with the latest research results. They suggested that the standing stones originated from a stone circle which consisted of 18 to 20 stones. The holed stone, however, could be part of a nearby portal tomb. It also possible that the holed stone stood at the center of the stone circle and served to frame specific points on the horizon. Such a use of a holed stone is not known in other sites, although the nearby stone circle of Boscawen-Un does have a central standing stone.
It's just great to sit for an hour and wonder what they did or what they meant, a great circular walk from the car park with some great views.

I’ve been wanting to visit this Cornish landmark for months so took advantage of the great weather to do the 110 mile round trip. Free parking for around 6 vehicles, not very busy because it is right out the way and not commercialised (thankfully) the obvious next thing to see was Ding Dong Mine that is in the distance from Men An Tol. The dogs enjoyed it too. This open space with Cornish history is one of the many reasons I love Cornwall and am proud to be Cornish.

Lovely walk up the farm lane to see the ancient stones. Great views of the countryside and can walk onto the engine house ruin on the hill.

A beautiful place, quiet and peaceful surrounded by nature. A nice place for a walk to get away from it all. There is a small free parking area.

Peaceful and serene historic stones set with a wider rough moorland area. A short trail walk from on road parking. Definitely worth a walk to see them and climb through the circular stone

About 15 minutes easy walk from the road along a wide path, followed by a stepped climb over a wall and a walk for another 100 meters. Definitely not accessible unless you are capable of climbing steep stone steps.
Beautiful views all around. The stones are fascinating and very tactile. Lots of space for chilling out or a picnic on the ground.

A pilgrimage every time we are down here - perhaps partly because the first time we found it we'd trekked across country, had an encounter with an adder and then suddenly came across this magical sight in a clearing (even though it's quite easy to get to from the road).
