We got in touch with Toby having followed his work on social media. We had reached the end of a large renovation project and needed some bespoke carpentry items to fit some quirky spaces - fitted ‘open style’ wardrobes in our dresser maximising space, converting a strange shower cupboard in my daughter’s bedroom into some huge storage cupboards (making good the surrounding area), building corner bookshelves in my husband’s study. And creating a storage unit to hide our TV/Console items!
On initial meeting, Toby took time to understand our requirements, creating excellent drawings which brought these to life. I got to select the finish in farrow & ball paint to match our rooms, they look fabulous! The products were made and installed with great efficiency. Toby and his team were perfectionists on site and didn’t complete the project until they/us were 100% happy. We would highly recommend his services.

This individual operates unethically, selling services and skills that he clearly does not possess. I hired him for five different tasks, yet three out of the five were entirely unsatisfactory.

A chair he "repaired" collapsed as soon as a light guest sat on it. Aside from being highly embarrassing, this posed a significant risk of injury.

Toby was also responsible for securing our floorboards, but the work he left behind was so shoddy that the carpet fitter could not proceed. Despite his claim that it was impossible to fix the uneven floorboards, I was able to rectify the issue myself after he had left them in a poor state. To clarify, the floorboards were not uneven until Toby's involvement.

Additionally, the mirror he supposedly "repaired" is now coming apart, with the visible glue making it clear that the job was done poorly. The adhesive should never have been visible, especially since the pieces fit together seamlessly before his work.

For the price I paid, I expected far superior craftsmanship. It is painfully obvious where repairs were made, and I am now left with the task of using putty to address the damage he left. Furthermore, the screws he used are conspicuously visible, and despite initially being willing to overlook these issues, the repairs are no longer holding up at all. Toby offered a paltry £100 refund after I paid £468 for just over half a day’s work, leaving me with the added expense of hiring someone who actually understands how to repair furniture. This has resulted in a substantial financial loss due to Toby's unethical practices.

I am deeply disappointed, as his business presented itself as professional, but the quality of his work was anything but.

Toby has done further work for us adding hooks mounted on oak to the back of a door. Super job again.

Toby did a top job, replacing all our bedroom doors. We're very pleased with the doors and the quality of the work is excellent. We will definitely use Militao again when we need bespoke carpentry completed.

Toby and his colleague Aaron replaced all of our old internal doors with 13 new oak doors which have transformed the look of our house. Toby was very responsive to questions before the work and was the only provider I asked to quote who responded quickly in fact within 24 hours. He suggested slightly different doors to those I proposed which while of the same quality were slightly cheaper. The work was undertaken in a very professional manner and we are very pleased with the outcome and in fact are considering having further work done by Militao Carpentry. They were happy working round our inquisitive dogs, protected the carpets, cleared up at the end of each day (the work took a week) and were always polite and flexible. I would happily recommend.

Toby designed and fitted some beautiful cupboards for us. We Have been using them for 6 months now, can tell the quality is good- absolutely no problems. Brilliant communication and also allowed us to change the design (from shaker style to a more traditional finish) at last minute which didn’t affect the final quote.

Toby not only installed but designed the wardrobes 5 in total in our main bedroom. 2 concealed an old fireplace, one was massive (80x80cm), a two formed a walk-in wardrobe with automatic lights, he then built 2 bedside cabinets to our exact specification (185cm apart) to fit our super king sized bed, together with panelling behind it! Looks magnificent!

He recently designed, made and installed a couple of bespoke draws to complete a small wardrobe space and they are perfect.
