Fascinating 18th century watermill, on a much older site that was recorded in the Domesday Book. The setting by the River Stour is very peaceful and overlooks a historic bridge.
On the quiet October afternoon I visited, I was lucky enough to get a personal guided tour. The guide was brilliant, informative and entertaining, and I got to see working models of the mill equipment.
The wooden machinery inside the mill is original, and I learnt all about how it worked and why the materials were chosen. If you've ever wondered why mills often have apple trees outside, you'll find out here.
There's a parking area across the road, and you can buy a souvenir to remember your visit if you wish.
I got in free with National Trust membership, but at the time I visited, the ticket price was just £3.50 for non-members, great value for such an interesting visit. The mill is only open on weekends and closed over winter, so check the website for opening times in advance of visiting to avoid disappointment.

Facinating mill with parking. There are no loos there. It's only open at weekends. There is no Café either. However, we enjoyed it and the ancient bridge there too.

Ancient water mill site, beautiful location. Present mill not running and in need of restoration but shows all workings and gearing. Interesting and informative and in original condition. Worth visiting. No visitor amenities or cafe.

It was a great mill dating back to the Norman conquest.
The National Trust volunteers gave us a tour of the mill and were very informative.

Stopped here after visiting the Kingston lacy site. Had a guided tour round the mill which was very interesting. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Lovely walks and views around the mill 😀

Lovely National trust trail along the river and through the village and back. However the path along the river stour from The Mill is so overgrown and full of stinging nettles so was very hard going, needs cutting back badly. Still enjoyed it though and free parking at The Mill across the road.

If you like historical water Mills this will be right up your street. It's interesting but not a day out.
If you are passing then worthy of a hour of your time. There are plenty of walks around the mill.
