We held my daughter’s 21st in the clubhouse. Simone, Lesley & Justine couldn’t have done more to ensure we had the perfect event. Highly recommended. Lovely venue run by good people.

Both of my son's play at the club, all the coaches are amazing and helpful. Great grounds and friendly atmosphere. Both of the boys are looking to forward going every week and are happy to be part of teams. Could not ask more!

Had a sixtieth birthday party here. And it was brilliant! Good selection of beer and drinks. And the food they put on was absolutely spot on. The staff were really friendly and helpful and looked after us all brilliantly!

Decent clubhouse. Decent range of beers etc. Not sure if disabled parking, but is disabled entrance and toilets. Carpark not huge. Need to get there early for a space. Xx

A friendly and well resourced club with some genuinely great patrons that fundamentally exists through the time and energy facilitated by the volunteer staff and coaches. Such a pity we’ve had no option but to leave due to the ‘clubs’ inability to understand and manage racism. Our 11year old son was racial abused whilst playing for the club and other than being signposted to the safeguarding officer, little to no support was provided. My wife had to report the incident to both the club and police, the club didn’t even know they should report racism, let alone how. Whilst well intended, the coaches are ill equipped and supported by the club. In fairness, the safeguarding officer was fantastic and has been understanding and supportive, but was unavailable because of sickness, however, no one else reached out to us in her absence. We had heard from others linked to the club that there were numerous discussions and an investigation, yet no details were disclosed to ourselves. I find it laughable and extremely misleading for the club to have suggested to anyone an investigation was in process when the police officer assigned, liaised with us directly and stated how he couldn’t get hold of anyone at the club. We in fact provided alternative numbers to the officer and he later reported to have finally spoken to a coach we don’t know, nor knows us. I fail to understand how a club investigates something without talking to the parties involved? Sound like a means to imply something is being done when in fact nothing is or it maybe they have links to Inspector Clourseau or better still Magnum PI, more like Mr. Magoo! I only imagine a committee much like Statler and a Waldorf from the Muppets attempting to understand something they can’t. We were told by a coach that such abuse happens and will again! No shock there when clubs like Oadby Wyggs are predominantly white and fail to engage with the black community in order to understand racism is not name calling and impacts on their players, in particular children. I have to wonder whether it is with an intent that there are very few black players, none of which are represented at the committee level. We cannot intrust our sons well-being and recommend you check a clubs policies on racial discrimination before signing up. It’s bizarre we’d be more likely to intrust our son to the opposition club we encountered racism by a single player because of the manner in which they constructively worked with the police and dealt with the matter and plan to promote and manage more robust systems to address racism. This is particularly encouraging given there is a great deal of accounts and articles regarding how rife racism is in rugby.

In response to the reply, Firstly our son is ok! No you did not and had not enquired, you’ve only responded because I left negative feedback on Google. So that’s your lack of sincerity contended with. Let me correct you…My wife reported the incident to the safeguarding rep, any communication within the club followed. The police were notified with affect by my wife as the club were not aware they should. The police office was able to effectively communicate directly with the other club, and attempted to contact Oadby Wyggs initially with no success. We provided alternative numbers, this is the important part! The office did manage to speak with a member of the club, so why aren’t you aware of this discussion? Is it that communication within the club itself has a poor reputation? I’ve certainly heard this on a number of occasions from various individuals. So please, get off your high horse and recognise you need to improve on how you manage racism, better still promote anti racism. As a white father of a black child, I acknowledge there are limitations to my understanding as I have not nor will ever experience the abuse my 11yr old son has and will. Even now, other than reinforcing my options, what had the club actually done? Maybe you should also recognise your own limitations and do more as what you have is not nearly enough.
