Peterborough Cathedral – Where History Rests in Style! ⛪👑

We had a fantastic time exploring this 12th-century stunner! That epic Gothic facade? Pure drama. Inside, history oozes from every stone—oh, and did we mention two queens are buried here? Katherine of Aragon (Henry VIII’s first wife) and Mary, Queen of Scots (before she got relocated). If you love a bit of royal scandal, medieval vibes, and jaw-dropping architecture, this place is a must visit

Miserable day and parking is a long way away but the staff were very helpful in making this easier for my wife who had temporary mobility issues. The cathedral is quite austere but has pretty good heating in 3deg weather!

Peterborough Cathedral is a truly wondrous building that everyone should make the effort to visit at least once in their life. (If you're local, you have no excuse!)

Entry to the cathedral is free (although making a donation is suggested) and there is often various events taking place.

There are many things that make the cathedral cool, not least the fact it is the resting place of Catherine of Aragon and has a 12th century roof which is one of a kind in Europe.

I would strongly recommend booking ahead for the upper levels and tower tour which is a very reasonable £15 a ticket (plus booking fees if booking online). This allows you to see behind the scenes but also explore and learn about the cathedral in a greater way.

Business can also make use of the wonderful conferencing spaces available.

The cathedral truly is the heart of the city and an asset which has been treasured for 900 years and should be for 900 more.

One of the UK's most impressive cathedrals, with outstanding Norman architecture and a long, storied history.
Approaching from the market square, visitors are met with a magnificent view of the cathedral. Stepping inside, the interior is just as dramatic, with high arches, a real sense of space, and stunning painted ceilings.
The cathedral is notable for being the final resting place of Katherine of Aragon and Mary, Queen of Scots. It also houses the Hedda Stone, dating back over 1,000 years from the original church, and an impressive historic clock that we were fortunate enough to see operate.
Entry to the cathedral is free, donations are naturally welcomed. There's a small gift shop inside, and a café and toilets in the grounds.
If you're interested in churches and cathedrals, or historic architecture generally, it's worth travelling a distance to see. The walk from the railway station is less than 15 minutes.
