As someone who deals with domestic violence regularly in my job, I don’t think the care to women is as good as it could be.

For example, women that have changed their names due to fleeing domestic abuse, they will continually call them by their birth name instead of their legal name despite being told numerous times by the women that they don’t like their name, consequently triggering the women they aer supposed to be caring for.

It doesn’t take long to get someone’s name right. Considering they are supposed to be “trained” in dealing with women experiencing DV, reminding them of their past and holding them back in that place by refusing to recognise that they have legally changed their name is very harmful.

I am a counsellor at Sutton Women’s Centre & the support the ladies at the centre offer is second to none. I would recommend SWC to any female in need. The services they offer from coffee mornings to the freedom program are all completely life changing to the women that attend.
