We've adopted from the Nantwich branch three times, and each experience has been wonderful thanks to the lovely people there. We're incredibly grateful to BHWT for helping us build our flock. It's so rewarding watching them flourish into the beautiful hens they’ve become. There’s nothing quite like sitting in the garden, enjoying a gin and tonic, with your hens happily free-ranging around you—it's truly one of life’s greatest pleasures.

Today I had to take a hen from this trust to the vets to be euthanised. The hen had been with me for 6 days. It was unable to walk from the start even tho I was assured all the hens could walk. The vet had never seen a bird in this condition. It was practically bare of feathers. I presume it had been lifted without care by one leg and this had caused a dislocation. This was a very expensive start for me but the trust reimbursed me for the vet fee and the donation which I had given.

I have had ducks from BHWT previously which went fine. However I would be incredibly cautious if you join their Facebook group, especially if you’re a newer keeper of poultry. Shortly after losing my original hen who I cared for deeply and having a new hen escape I chose to clip their wings, I was thoroughly harassed on their group by a vile individual because of this, I raised the issue with them at the time and was ignored. Not a great experience at all and tainted my view of this organisation as they clearly do not care. I have utilised other groups I’ve found since to ask questions etc as they tend to be more supportive and monitored spaces. I haven’t adopted from BHWT since, I go direct to breeders where I know I won’t be judged for my welfare choices.

Always get our chickens from here as it is a great charity doing great work.
The girls turn up battered and emotionally damaged from the horrors of the first par of their life, but quickly adjust and it is so rewarding seeing them progress to happy chickens

Anyone who is looking to rescue or rehome hens this is the place to go . If your looking for quality products to help your hens this is the place . Plenty of products and plenty of information. But most of all a great charity who help rescue hens from slaughter

Very helpful staff and reserved chickens for collection in Sharpness after not sufficient hens for a collection in Kidderminster in September. Collection information received well in advance and arrived at our allotted time. Very helpful staff at collection farm who loaded our 5 chickens for us and we were on our way back home within 5 minutes. Well done all involved. This is the 2nd time we have had hens from the Trust and will certainly again in the future. Keep up the great work. Our rather feather pecked girls are now settling into their new home and we even had 3 eggs from them yesterday.👍

I rescued 10 colony caged birds from ferring... I'm so pleased I did! Watching them flourish and learn how to be normal chickens is a joy. They have such amazing characters, and truly are my beloved pets. Thank you to BHWT and all your wonderful volunteers.

What a great job this charity does. I knew loads of people who had pet hens from them,Inc a nr neighbour so decided to have a look for myself. I've always taken in unwanted chickens Inc a lot of cockerels,as a vegetarian they were safe to live out their lives with me. When I moved to a more populated area (10houses) I knew I had to stop taking cockerels in. These hens are so sweet,you still get some eggs, enough to keep me and my family in fresh eggs plus a few neighbours, hedgehogs appreciate a few too. As long as you can keep them safe at night from urban foxes or a brave cat,why not have even just two. Company for each other and they do make great easy to care for pets,very easy for children to handle and they like to be petted,nice calm birds who deserve a better ending to life after all those yummy eggs they've produced for you to enjoy. Give it a thought,a rabbit hutch and run would be ok when you consider these girls aren't used to that much freedom. More if you can give it and they're not expensive costing less than a cat to keep. Great at clearing pests from your garden and thrive in a nice patch of nettles.
