I recently joined The Lawrence Centre as a Volunteer and can honestly say I have been totally impressed with how the Centre is run by Maggie and the team. Having seen the hard work of volunteers at first hand, The Lawrence Centre operates so well and offers such a warm welcoming atmosphere. Residents of Wells and the surrounding areas are able to access such excellent and organised days.

My late father attended the Lawrence centre for over two years. He really enjoyed it and loved the company, activities and lunch there. However when he had a personal accident regarding the toilet he was treated appallingly. He was seated by an open window alone when I arrived to collect him. The other people were seated at the far end of the room. The helper who met me was almost hysterical and very hostile. I took dad home and his carer came to clean him up. Next day I had phone call from Maggie Charleswirth who informed me that unless I could guarantee it wouldn’t happen again he would no longer be welcome? An elderly man of 88 with dementia can offer no such guarantees so my father stopped going tho I didn’t tell him why. He passed away a couple of months ago
It seems rather odd to have this attitude in an elderly “dementia friendly” day centre .
