Easy access to the site – use the left hand entrance which leads directly to a large car park. Unusually there is both a Camping & Caravan CS and a Caravan & Motorhome Club CL on the same site. The entrance to both are clearly marked as you enter the car park – the entrance to the CL is on the right as you enter The Lodge Trust car park - follow the clearly signed directions which lead you onto the CL field. The entrance to the CS is straight ahead then turn left to enter the CS field. The main difference between the two sites is that the CL has 5 large hardstanding pitches with large lawned areas to relax once set up whereas the CS pitches are on grass.

The CL hardstanding pitches have 16 amp electric hook up points, are all flat and level and each are clearly marked with posts and pitch numbers. When we made our reservation we were allocated a pitch which we found to be excellent, both in space as well as being easy to access, even for a large twin axle caravan.

The CL is very attractively laid out, with flower and shrub borders as you enter the CL field. There is also a wooden gate leading onto an adjacent playing field plus a gravel path which takes you around the perimeter of the field – good for a stroll before turning-in for the evening!

Within the grounds there is a café with inside / outside seating plus an information point and book exchange which are in the same building. A separate building contains a laundry (limited open times) and where the Elsan and recycling bins are situated.

There are also wooden chalets for hire – ideal for those members who have family and friends who do not own a caravan or motorhome.

We found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the site and we will no doubt return at some future date.

Finally local attractions include a number of very attractive villages with thatched houses, flower displays etc. For those who like cycling and walking, Rutland Water is only a short distance (bike hire available) plus the area is surrounded by many quiet lanes and bridleways in which to explore.

We've stayed at the CAMC site a couple of times and really like it, particularly the country park and the location. However there is also a Camping and Caravan Club CS in a different part of the site and signage is poor. So when we arrived to book into our pitch to find it was already taken, we were not surprised to find the occupant was booked into the CS site and had pitched on the wrong site. Fortunately we were able to raise someone from the office by phone. They were very helpful but only available Mon-Fri during office hours. Although the CCC member was contacted and asked to move his motorhome, they did not arrive back until 8pm, with a surly, rude and unco-operative attitude. They did move their motorhome, without a word of apology, but we wasted half a day of our break as we did not get pitched and setup until it was dark. I think this site needs to consider changing its signage and pitch numbers as I heard from other guests that this issue happens a lot, but the office probably doesn't get to hear about it because it has to be sorted out between guests outside office hours. Although I like the site, I will now probably try somewhere else, next time we are in the area. I've given 4 stars because the site is well maintained and has good facilities; and I have had a better experience on previous occasions.

Our review will take in 2 aspects separately, firstly the site itself, secondly the services offered on this site y the Lodge Trust :
The site is largely as portrayed on the website. It is in a tranquil corner of Rutland, quite tidy, 5 pitches plus 2 nicely appointed log cabins , close to the village of Market Overton, which has a marvellous pub, the Black Bull. All good so far.

The problem, as other reviewers have noted, is that the Trust offers NO back-up to paying clients of their campsite should things go wrong. The website states there is a campsite receptionist at the end of a mobile phone number. There is not. They no longer employ such a person. No-one answers if you ring that number. The much-vaunted café on site is never open. When there was no hot water in the log cabin, we had to solve the problem ourselves - the main house receptionist said she would come to help but did not! When the Severn Trent water main burst, we had no water for 20+ hours. Bottled water was delivered by Severn Trent to the main house but none was shared with the camp site. That was unacceptable but seems to be the current business model of the Trust in that they have no practical duty of care to the camp site, which remains a lovely spot.

Really good food great menu and a warm welcome to be had. Seating inside and plenty of options outside too; a good bike stop. All to support on site charity so you can see where your money goes, a worthy cause indeed.

A beautiful countryside location. Excellent food cooked in the cafe. Staff are friendly and helpfull. A lovely place to bring the kids, as it bas a brilliant outdoor play area. Nice dog walking..

We stayed on the 5 pitch certified listing site. The whole site is beautifully kept, the cafe is excellent and a nice walking area too. We have been back and will go again. Not too far from the excellent cycle tracks around Rutland Water.

Great little CL site to chill out in , cafe does mega Breakfast and variety of other choices, lots of dog walks around about 👍🏻
