St George's Church in Pontesbury has Saxon foundations, but was largely rebuilt in 1832. The 13th century chancel persists and much of the building uses recovered medieval stone.
Inside, the nave and aisles are wide, lit by the high clerestory. The 12th century font takes pride of place in the middle of the nave. The choir screen and wooden panelling in the chancel are Jacobean.
The most striking feature of the chancel is the carved marble reredos and the mosaic tiling behind them. Added in 1866 by G. E. Streets, the tryptic features Jesus carrying the cross, the crucifixion and the resurrection.

Love village church with a warm welcoming atmosphere. The oldest, East end, of the church is beautifully serene place to just sit and think.

St. Georges Church in Pontesbury has been the focal point of the town for centauries, today it still dominates the skyline of Pontesbury town.
