I absolutely love Wild Goose and Bonnieโ€™s Cafรฉ! The love and care that all the staff show toward the students and all animals is truly outstanding. Every day, you see students leaving with big smiles on their faces.
The skills they learn here genuinely enhance their lives โ€” from caring for animals to cooking, crafting, woodworking, mechanics, and looking after the land just to name a fee. Itโ€™s such an inspiring place that nurtures both confidence and community.

Well done team. You are awesome.

While some of the larger animals had good care standards, I was horrified to see the care standards for the small animals especially the Syrian hamster. The minimum size enclosure for a Hamster is 100cm by 50cm by 50cm. The cage he is housed in looks like a rat cage as it has height over width and depth but would not house anything in there myself. Completely lack of bedding (they need 10inches), too small of a wheel and staff claimed he is happy in there. This promotes terrible care to people who think this is how it should be. As a rodent owner and animal keeper myself as my full time job, the standards for their small animals here were extremely disappointing. Prey animals should NOT be handled around and if small animal welfare is something you feel strongly about please avoid this place, hopefully things will change soon but will not be returning until it does.

My first visit here yesterday lunchtime, I enjoyed a delicious ham salad sandwich in granary bread with extra salad on the side, very tasty! I also enjoyed a refreshing pot of tea to drink. Lovely friendly ladies serving with a ready smile, very helpful too giving me information about the nature reserve walk and what to expect to see as I went round.
All in all a great experience and a joy to see the good work that is going on there with the special needs students. I plan to return again when next in the area to keep abreast of their ongoing work.
