My mum was in Abbeyfield Woodlands. She had increasing care needs during her time there. All the staff were fantastic, they treat her with care and dignity and would always go the extra mile to make her comfortable. They were on hand for her emergencies and checked regularly when she had an issue. I cannot fault in anyway the care and consideration provided by everyone during her time there.

However unfortunately my mum died in Woodlands but then they became even more supportive. I stayed with mum for the last two weeks of her life. In this time they not only looked after mum but me too. They ensured I was fed and got some rest. In the last few hours of mums life they sat with me providing the support I needed in this very emotional time. After mum passed they did not step back but continued to support me in the following weeks.
I cannot say how much Abbeyfield go the extra mile, Hayley leads a wonderful team from the top, her approach means that from the support staff to care staff a professional, caring and personable attitude is displayed 24 hours a day.

My father spent almost five years at Abbeyfield Woodlands, moving to be closer to us and our family. It was absolutely the right decision for everyone. He made new friends and loved his apartment, taking great pride in it.
As he needed more help, the care staff called four times a day which ensured that he never missed any medication.
During the lockdowns it was such a relief for me to know that even when I couldn’t visit, he was well looked after with an excellent lunch provided every day.
I have no hesitation in recommending Woodlands.

My mother was a resident at Woodlands for the last 3 years of her life.
She had a spacious ground floor apartment in which her furniture and treasures fitted perfectly to make her feel completely at home.
She made many new friends during the activities on offer and also during the convivial lunches.
The staff were always helpful and caring, providing support to my mother and our family when Covid restrictions made contact difficult.
When my mother became ill the staff increased their care for her, it was far more than we expected.
Our family would definitely recommend Skipton Abbeyfield Woodlands.

Our Dad moved into Woodlands on his 90th birthday. He was extremely content in his ground floor apartment and valued the companionship of his fellow residents and the varied group activities that were arranged. We were delighted with the care and genuine kindness and affection all the Woodlands staff showed him and felt very reassured that he was in a safe and happy place. We can't thank them enough for the way they looked out for Dad during Covid. The way they handled the pandemic was commendable. Their communication with us was excellent. We couldn't have wished for better people to have been around Dad and us during the final weeks of his life. Such a capable and caring team. Thank you.

A review of the activity co-ordinator;
Six years after my husband’s death I moved into Abbeyfield in Skipton, primarily because I wanted to be part of a community. Before the pandemic I was a member of the Craven U3A where I attended up to seven classes weekly these ranged from geography to Italian plus I was a member of the twice weekly walking group. In my earlier life I was a teacher - firstly of P.E. and then of special needs pupils in senior schools. Similar to all the residents here I had a career- a place in society as a contributing member of the workforce, in retirement I am, also, a contributing member of the various groups I attend.
Josephine (the activity co-ordinator) has encouraged me to talk about my previous life and career; she has listened even when I have repeated myself! Most of all, however, she has given me a feeling of value, of usefulness.
The numerous classes which Jo has introduced have been a most welcome diversion and a means of meeting my fellow residents in an informal setting. The workout fitness groups are particularly enjoyable for me-she has responded immediately when I have requested some additions to push me a little further e.g standing stretching and mat work. Weekly notes from her re- group meetings for the next week take pride of place in my kitchen and are a regular topic of conversation by text messages from my two daughters.
It has been particularly enjoyable when listening to our stories Jo has shared an insight into her artistic achievements, and, indeed her home life.
I have been particularly interested in observing the skill level with which she is able to empathise with the huge variety of physical and mental issues which are exhibited by the residents during the activities. Her skill lies in her ability to move on from a personal issue at the appropriate time.
The very extensive range of activities, Jo offers is a life-saver in these difficult times. Considering the short length of time I have known Jo, she has made an immeasurable impact on my well-being here in Abbeyfield.
