The place was nice, and the location was brilliant. However, they can make some improvements, like getting rid of the spider webs in room 3. I shared that room with 2 others, and we tried to avoid the webs as much as possible. The downstairs toilet was fart too small, and the showers were ridiculous as we needed to keep on switching it on when it switched off by itself, and the shower room was also small aswell.

Rooms OK, lights and sockets all worked in ours, underbed storage a nice touch. Beautiful old building but let down by the cleanliness of communal bathrooms and kitchen which had to be cleaned on arrival. Tray of burnt food had been left in the oven. Cobwebs everywhere and kitchen window boarded up. To be honest, the dirtiest of any hostel I have stayed at. Very limited parking but public parking nearby.

What an absolutely amazing time we all had at the Beverley Friary. Rob (Friary manager) couldn't have been more helpful with any questions I had run to the retreat and the venue and the location were absolutely perfect for the size of my group. I was very pleased with the levels of cleanliness and the quirky rooms, most with ensuites or at least shower rooms very close to the dorms if not within them. the kitchen was perfect for what we needed as well. All in all, it was the perfect stay! Thank you, YHA for making my 1st Yoga retreat an unforgettable experience for all who came.

I stayed here for 2 nights and was happy with my stay. I slept very well both nights - it blk is worthwhile to mention this hostel is right by the train tracks so if you are a light sleeper maybe not best. |I was greeted by the lovely Judy who showed me around the hostel. This is a self catering accommodation through and through. There is no option to add in breakfast (yet!?) However, the hostel is just across the road from a lovely shopping centre called Flemingate with lots of shops and cafes. It is a short 2 minute walk to the town centre with plenty of choices of dining options. |YHA hostels are run by volunteers and it is a truly wonderful option to do. The place was spotless! As it is the old friary there are religious symbols around. It is very quaint and old style with wooden beams and brick walls. I really liked this element as it added it's own charm to the building. Not just your regular hostel.

The Friary is a beautiful place to stay with lots of hidden history. Dorms are very spacious and airy, facilities are great and clean. Lovely, warm friendly atmosphere and Hazel the supervisor was extremely helpful. Stayed here whilst doing family genealogy and brilliantly place for using the Treasure House in Beverley. Would definitely recommend. :0)

Stayed here with my son to break up a cycle tour and it was perfect for our needs. Booked a 3 person en-suite room so we had a bit of “luxury”. |The room was great and bathroom was large with a great shower. I would prefer a shower that didn’t require constant button pressing to keep it on, but I understand the reasons for it. |I would use this place again.

I haven’t stopped at the Friary, but visited as part of the Heritage Open Days as I had heard about the C16th wall paintings. ||||The building is one of the few Friaries to survive in Britain. The church and cloisters were pulled down after the Dissolution of the Monasteries (and their remains are now lost beneath the railway line). The guest house survived as it hadn’t been used for religious purposes and became a family home. The wall paintings date from then. The building has had a checkered history and by 1960 was derelict and in danger of being demolished. A Trust was established to restore the building with YHA agreeing to run it as a hostel.||||The ablutions are in a new purpose built building carefully designed to complement the older buildings. The rest of the rooms retain their timber beam ceilings and huge brick fireplaces. The exhibition room on the ground floor and great hall on the first floor are for community use.||||The wall paintings are on the first floor. Those in the great hall are black charcoal outlines of flowers, fruits and leaves which cover the plaster and wood structural beams. They are delightul.||||Don’t miss the anteroom (easliy done as you have to turn back on yourself away from the great hall). These have paintings of the Holy Trinity and Crown of Thorns (a bit oppressive with a lot of black) as well as one of the Tree of Life. The two blackbirds represent the Dominican Friars with their black cloaks....||||Beyond in small room referred to as the retiring room, is another wall painting. This is different to the rest in style and has blocks of solid colour which have oxidised to black over the centuries. ||||This is well worth visiting. Not only are these some of the best preserved domestic wall paintings in the country, it is also interesting seeing how an old friary has been adapted for a new purpose while still retaining many original features.

We hired The Friary for our wedding in November. We had a roaring fire in the great hall and all the guests were so impressed with the buildings charm. The manager and staff were incredibly accommodating and allowed us to visit so many times to make sure everything was in place. Fantastic venue for any group in the heart of Beverley.
