Our stay was exactly what we had hoped for and more.||Walking and waterfalls by day and hearty meals in the evening using the well equipped kitchen, followed by different board/card games in the evening. (While the drying room helped us to keep our bast walking clothes ready for the following mornings activities).||With a choice of open water swimming in Ennerdale Water or a circular walk/run all the way round.||Cosey and warm inside, Great support from the Hostel manager. ||Thrpughly reccommended.

Beautiful location, tucked away in the Lake District. Accommodation had all the amenities and was very well kept. Perfect for a big family gathering or friends gateaway. There is no 4G or WiFi available at the property (due to its remoteness), however there is a café located nearby which has free WiFi.

Brilliant base if you want to forget getting in the car and just walk for miles and miles with stunning views. Slate mine is also an interesting place to visit and hiking down into Buttermere is easy from this base. If you overdo it with the hills / mountains there is a lovely walk around Buttermere to rest the legs of hills.

Spent a couple of days here. What a great little hostel! Very remote and isolated but that's the best thing about it. No wifi so people actually talk to each in the evening! Tim the manager does everything from cleaning to cooking and was terrific! The place is clean - reading previous reviews people complain about damp but its obviously been resolved as there was no sign of it! Breakfast was just right for a day on the fells. Will definitely stay again!

The location was perfect for a stop on our coast to coast but our stay wasn't particularly good. Tim was very helpful but his cooking was very basic & not good quality. We also ordered a packed lunch & were given an almost inedible ham sandwich which we both discarded. The room was fine & the washroom clean enough but next time we will travel a couple of miles further for our overnight stop.

Honister Hause YHA is a brilliant place to stay for anyone who loves the great outdoors. It's friendly and cosy and the warden, Alison, is really nice and helpful. Right opposite the hostel is the ascent to Dale Head with its amazing views. Next door is the slate mine which welcomes visitors and is interesting to visit. Anyone doing the Coast 2 Coast walk will find this hostel on the route.

It was a decent accommodation for the price. It is located really close to the slate mine but that has no effect on the quality of the service. Staff is kind and helpful. Rooms are very clean and tidy (no noise or dust, etc). They have a drying room wich is a plus. The toilets and the bathroom would have been cleaner but the overall experience is really good. Will return.

Basic accommodation at a bargain price for being in one of the if not THE prime location in the Lakes. Access to the hills of Wasdale, Brandreth, Kirkfell, Green Gable, Great Gable or on the other side Dale Head and Robinson. Fantastic Location to recce Leg 4 & 5 of the Bob Graham round.
