Another great stay at a YHA for our little walking group. This time at the South Downs. Lovely hostel with friendly helpful staff as usual. Great location for walking the South Downs. Also usefully close to a train station so it is easy to plan a one way walk back to the hostel from either Seaford or Eastbourne depending on how energetic you are feeling. (23km or 30km). Nearest pub the Abergavenny Arms just over a mile away which is excellent for food and nice ales.

It's been a while since I stayed at a YHA, and apparethey've done them up! My mum (89) and I stayed in a 2-person room (there is only one, don't get excited) proper clean sheets and duvet provided, bunk beds very comfortable. Everyone working there was friendly and polite and helped with all questions. This yha is located right next to the South Downs way walking trail and it's beautiful countryside. They have a charming cafe where the locals hang out and the food was simple and delicious.

This is a lovely little cafe, with very friendly staff. It has a sunny courtyard garden and is dog friendly. The place is frequented by walkers, cyclists and passers-by. This is the place for a snack, en route to somewhere or during a footpath walk. It has a fairly varied menu, cakes and drinks. The cooking is good. The prices are reasonable. The facilities are clean. My only complaint - I would like to see a more varied vegan menu, in keeping with many other venues.

A lovely old farmhouse converted into a smart modern hostel but retaining original features. Under floor heating in the dorm was a surprise and perhaps a sign pointing this out and how to adjust the thermostat might be good. The cafe area is great and my meal was prepared quickly and was perfect. I had the dorm to myself on the Sunday as I've had in the past. ||Just bear in mind if you come from the train station that there's no lighting at night and there are puddles and potholes. Bring boots and a light!

Great hostel with wonderful staff and pleasant cafe. Good location on the South Downs and great connections from Southease station (100m away) to Lewes / Brighton / Seaford etc. Our room was right at one and and had some road noise, but I slept well enough anyway.

A very well run Youth Hostel. The staff are very efficient, polite and helpful. It's in a perfect position on the South Downs Way, so ideal in particular, for any walkers and cyclists. The cafe for hot food and drinks is open all day for passing 'traffic' as well. A lovely hostel, which is clean, relaxing and very comfortable. My room was very nice, with a basin, but the bathroom was only two doors away and again was very clean. The hostel is located about 2-3 minutes walk from Southease BR station, where there are regular train services to local areas, such as Lewis, Seaford, Newhaven and Brighton. There is a very nice cycle path along the River Ouse to Lewis, which has just been renewed and is a lovely surface to ride along. I would highly recommend YHA South Downs, if you need a break, to 'blow away a few cobwebs' and give your brain a holiday, or to just enjoy the great outdoors !! Give it a go !!

We had a quick and easy check in and our dorm room for 6 was clean and comfortable. We all had evening meals in the café and a hot breakfast |in the morning. The food was delicious and all of the staff were so friendly and helpful, especially Colin on the morning we left. |Highly recommended for travellers and families.

The staff at YHA South Downs were so helpful during our stay.|We had over estimated our time to get to the youth hostel on the South Downs Way and called them to let them know that we would be late and we hoped we would get there before they stopped serving food. We were assured that we would be able to get food when we arrived and that gave us the drive to get there quicker!|On arrival, food was sorted out, bike storage was shown to us and we were all booked in quickly.|The private room with ensuite was clean and well setup, even with lights, power sockets and shelves on each bunk bed.|Breakfast was great, with ample food available and no rush to leave!
