Thiis was a 1 star experience because this outwardly lovely chuch was not open. Which is nothing short of a disgrace. The churchwardens, or whoever decided to lock the doors and deny anyone entry..either as a tourist interested in the building, or anyone seeking spiritual refreshment...come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden etc... should think seriously whether their actions can be justified. Why the church cannot be open at specific limited times, and those times made available in the excellent Grassington Visitor Centre, thus ensuring no-one makes a wasted trip, is beyond me. The graveyard contains many interesting features, not least some unusual gravestones. There are exquisite carvings above the windows. The interior must be equally interesting. One accesses the church from the Grassington Visitors centre via Linton Falls..well worth visiting. If one exits the graveyard towards the river and crosses the stepping stones one can turn left and return to the falls. Despite the disappoint caused by those unthinking persons responsible for denying the pleasure of visiting a church which promises much, the walk is worth the effort Just pray that by the time you visit some wisdom may prevail among those responsible for the church being inaccessible.

Beautiful setting situated next to Linton falls and a short stroll from the village. Well kept surroundings and most likely steeped in history given the ancient looking building and some prominent family tombstones.
I believe at present closed to visitors inside the building due to the current covid restrictions. Well worth a trip if in the area.

So disappointed with today's remembrance service, we travelled to Linton from Doncaster to be at the service as every year prior to this under the old vicar, my grandfather Richard Gilbert's name was read out together with his brothers Edward Gilbert.
My grandfather's name is not on the war memorial as he died a couple of years after returning from active service from an illness he contracted while serving abroad at the age of 25. My grandfather is buried in the church grounds with a military headstone and I had to write to the previous vicar in order to have his name read at the service and it was always a huge sense of pride to hear his name.
My father is 80 next year and we brought him to the service to hear his father's name read out maybe for the last time and it did not happen! You can imagine the disappointment he felt!!
'Lest we forget' seems to be false words as my grandfather was truly forgotten today.
Needless to say we will not be returning to the remembrance service at Linton......so disappointed!

A short walk from the visitor centre car park, down via an ancient trod. Over the bridge at Linton Falls and hanger left. If you keep going on through the churchyard, the stepping stones are just a bit further on at the river's bend. Really attractive and unusual church building, dating from Norman times. There is an interesting pamphlet about the church available to purchase at £1.25. Each era had a go at making its stamp on and revisions to the building, from the Georgians to the Victorians. There are at least 50 folk buried in the church itself. There are Norman arches and a 1150 Norman font. Mousie Thompson has been busy in this church: lectern, candlesticks and other furniture all there with his trademark meeces on - I am a big Mousie Thompson fan! There are some wonderful textiles within, particularly the gorgeous, rich altar front made by Fiona Marsden in the 1990's. Inspired by lichen on a tombstone, it is reminiscent of stained glass itself. Kaleidoscopic. Like other churches, St Michael & All Angels has been a victim over the years to those of sticky fingers, yearning to covet something that's not theirs, even stealing parts of gravestones. Thieving from churches, tsk tsk. The gate does open, but right next to it is a high rise of stone steps, being the public footpath. On the approach in the field on the right hand side, glebe field, is a large, prominent and curiously solitary stone which may have had pagan origins. All told, a lovely old church well worth a visit.
